colebourneCAMRA members and locals gathered to witness the presentation of Cheltenham CAMRA’s ‘Summer Pub of the Season’ award to the Colesbourne Inn.

Set in the heart of the picturesque Cotswold countryside, the Colesbourne Inn is an old coaching inn of the Colesbourne Estate dating back to 1827. Located midway between Cheltenham and Cirencester, it is ideally situated for visiting many of the Cotswolds’ beauty spots.

Landlords Liz and Trevor Johnson hail from Durham and have been at the helm of the Colesbourne Inn for six years. Receiving the award from Cheltenham CAMRA Chair, Veronica Emary, landlady Liz said: “It is fantastic news for us because the staff put in a lot of effort in running the pub and I would like to thank them for all their hard work. We are known primarily for our quality accommodation and food; we even have a separate Coeliac Menu for customers who need a gluten free diet. However, we have worked very hard to ensure that our real ales are properly conditioned and served and this award shows that this work is recognised. We would like to thank Cheltenham CAMRA for this award.”

Cheltenham CAMRA Chair, Veronica Emary, said: “Our branch covers quite an area and sometimes the country pubs don’t get the recognition they deserve. The Colesbourne is a classic Cotswold Inn, with fantastic gardens and views. The Inn serves great food and well kept Wadworth beers; what more could you ask of a summer pub? It’s nice that we are able to reward hardworking landlords like Trevor and Liz for all their hard work.

“For a country pub the Colesbourne Inn is actually very accessible. Visitors from Cheltenham can catch the No 51 Cirencester bus from the Promenade. The journey time is only twenty minutes and the last bus back is 23:30.”

The Colesbourne Inn features a traditional bar, cosy open fires and a restful atmosphere. To the rear is a separate dinning room, which leads to a terraced garden and grounds with stunning Cotswold views. The Inn caters for a wide range of customers including tourists, families and business people, as well as the thriving local community. The Inn also offers nine en-suite bedrooms.
